Object Diaries: Election Day
Hello!
On this Election Day in the U.S., I'd like to share the story of Imran Mohammad Fazal Hoque with you.
Imran was born in the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar in 1994, a member of the stateless Rohingya people. The Rohingya were not recognized as citizens of any country, which meant Imran had no birth certificate or written record to prove he existed. He couldn't read, write, or go to school.
Yet, Imran would later become a Pulitzer Center Writing Fellow. The story Imran shares in the Object Diaries podcast is one of great courage, inspiration, and patriotism.
I think Imran's is a perfect story to share today.
One reviewer wrote, "Imran's paper was so moving and beautiful - there is so much that I take for granted about my safety and citizenship. This was such an amazing story and such a personal experience. I loved it."
